Exclusively commissioned for Camilla, these watercolour puzzle purses are hand made and hand painted in the UK.
The puzzle purse (similar to the paper fortune teller today) was a piece of paper folded several times over to conceal and then reveal a message from one person to the other. The first example of a puzzle purse dates all the way back to the 1700s.
These paper puzzles were most often used to send personal messages for Valentine’s Day. On each folded section, the sender would write a message that the receiver could then read by opening the puzzle purse fold by fold.

When I saw you…. Are the words of Arrigo Boito, an Italian poet, and are taken from his Opera Falstaff written in 1893.
The original Italian reads:
Come Ti vidi,
M’innamorai,
E tu Sorridi,
Perche lo sai.
